Tickets are available now for the 20th Annual Vashon Island Garden
Tour! Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, tickets
are $25.
Pre-Tour events, Friday, June 25, include Garden Connoisseurs, from
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., when avid gardeners can pick up garden tips and
enjoy light refreshments at two premiere Island gardens. Space is
limited; tickets are $45 per person, or $60 per person including
weekend Garden Tour ticket.
Sunset Garden Gala, 6 p.m., until sunset, Friday, June 25, will take
place in a private garden paradise overlooking Dockton Harbor. Enjoy
cocktails, gourmet dinner and live music. Gala tickets are $125 per
person. Space is limited.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, five gardeners will
graciously open their artful gardens. Featured gardens offer
divergent approaches and different topography-from the deeply shaded
park-like setting of the Cedarhurst area to a garden with exotic
foliage, texture and bold contrasts of color, a sunny, serene
hillside garden with meditation path and a large garden featuring a
myriad of perennials and trees. Many gardens will feature live music
and garden art. A plant sale will offer some great deals to take
home and the Garden Market features a variety of garden-related art.
Tour tickets are valid both days and include seminars. Attend Sylvia
Matlock’s seminar on Planting Roofs and Living Walls 10 a.m. to 11
a.m., Saturday and Sunday at DIG Floral and Garden, or hear Greg
Rabourn, regular contributor to KUOW’s “Weekday” program, talk about
native plants 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at Blue Heron Art Center.
Island artists have embellished planter boxes as special silent
auction items, available for bids throughout the weekend. Garden
Tour sponsors include Puget Sound Energy, Thriftway, John L. Scott,
LS Cedar Inc, Island Home Center and Lumber, JR Crawford, DIG and
Kathy’s Corner.
