Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Panache

Classically-trained, mezzo-soprano/composer Sarah Mattox, violinist/violist Jo Nardolillo and pianist Judith Cohen comprise Seattle’s Tangletown Trio. The all-women trio will perform a Valentine’s concert for VAA’s Panache Jazz Series with songs of George and Ira Gershwin (“Embraceable You”), Cole Porter (“Who Said Gay Paree?”), Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer (“Moon River”) and Irving Gordon (Nat King Cole’s famous “Unforgettable”).

Bowing to the Great American Songbook, Tangletown Trio calls this show “the music of our own time,” enduring, beloved art songs of the 20th and 21st centuries. Tunes both humorous love songs and nostalgic romantic pieces.

About their new CD Song Nouveau, BMI composer Bern Herbolsheimer says, “The performances are just superb. Each produces a beautiful, consistent and seamless sound - and together they blend into something much more than a trio; it is more like a single person with three simultaneous voices. They clearly all share the same artistic inclination and purpose.”

Mattox explains their name refers to Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood that lies north of N 50th Street, near Green Lake, where all three women live. According to Mattox and Nardolillo, their collaboration began in Bend, Oregon, where they shared a crib as babies and later took Suzuki string lessons. They reconnected in Seattle where Cohen joined them.

Bring your friend, your lover or yourself, and don’t miss this evening of beautiful music and women, champagne and chocolate.
