Bird’s Eye View for July/August 2010
Summer brings out the painter in some. Landscapes can be such
inspiration and in the Northwest all seasons hold nuggets of gold
for mining. Think of fields of lavender,
fir greens, sunflowers and roses, barns in states of disrepair,
streams of silver and the open waters of the Sound. In July Heron’s
Nest will host paintings by Margi Amstrup as our featured artist.
Margi works in oil and her work is beautiful. We currently have a
small painting called Egg Coddler and its realism is charming and
reminiscent of days gone by.
Liz Lewis with her colorful and popular ceramic ware will also be
highlighted during July. Liz is a fabulous clay arts teacher and
kids and adults love her and her work.
For a couple of weeks we will display the VAA 2010 Community Quilt
in the front window. Please come and buy lots of tickets.
August is a month of hot days. Jon Rader Jarvis will display
recent paintings. Jon works mostly in acrylics but some watercolor
and is one of the finest painters and teachers on Vashon. I am
hoping for live music from the Geezers for the August opening. I
told Dick my favorite old song was “Goodnight Irene.” Please come
visit us at the Nest all summer; that’s a permanent invitation from
me.

Heron’s Nest is also looking for a few good volunteers. Please come in to the Nest for more information.
